Biography
Mithuna is a Conservation Biologist with a passion for our natural world and wildlife. She has worked for the Department of Conservation in the Biodiversity field for 13+ years and has a wide range of knowledge and skills undertaking research, monitoring and management of threatened species programmes in both New Zealand and overseas. She has previously worked alongside community-led conservation programmes in the eastern Bay of Plenty and is looking forward to supporting Member Groups in this role.
Mithuna helps manage an environmental restoration project in her backyard, the ‘Ōhiwa Headland Sanctuary Trust’ (which is located in the Ōpōtiki district) to allow native species within this 1500-ha area to flourish. She also enjoys time spent with her small family (including two Conservation Dogs), exploring new places, and moments spent dabbling behind a camera lens.
