About Course
Introduction to Freshwater Environments
In this training unit, Introduction to Freshwater Environments, we will dive into some of Aotearoa’s freshwater habitats and float over the surface to learn about their connection to the land and importance.
Our wonderful and unique freshwater habitats often get overlooked in conservation and it’s really important that we are aware of their uniqueness and include them when thinking about land management and resource protection.
By the end of this training unit, you will be able to identify the differences between land and aquatic habitats, define an aquatic habitat, define a catchment and explain why it is important in stream management, explain the generalised format of a stream when it flows from mountains to sea and list five safe practises when working around water.
