Introduction to Forest Ecology (Aongatete Forest, 1 August 2026)

About Course

This 1-day Introduction to Forest Ecology unit will cover the importance of forests, their function and the different types of forests e.g.lowland coastal and beech etc. as well as the species dominating forests in Bay of Plenty

The main ecological principles on a specific location (e.g. forest, wetland, dunes etc.) will be introduced. Working safely outdoors and appropriate use of navigation tools e.g. map, compass and GPS. will be covered and there will be a special focus on community conservation, including cultural awareness and volunteering. 

This one-day training unit will be held on Saturday 1 August 2026 (9am-4pm) at Aongatete Forest.

This training unit is run at other sites in the Bay of Plenty throughout the year.
